This is an untrimmed hand screened print called
Butterfly Jubilee.
My hand gives you some perspective as to the size
of the pattern.
Tools of the trade: Paperhanger's straight
edge & .009" single edge razor blades. Both sides of the
wallpaper have Trim/Join marks which tell you where to trim off
the selvedge & match the screen repeat.
I've already primed the walls with Gardz. While
that's drying, both sides of the wallpaper are trimmed.
Six (single) rolls comprise this "bolt".
The left selvedge has already been trimmed off.
Now I'm trimming off the right selvedge.
Once the entire bolt has been trimmed, the next
step is to decide where to place the pattern at the ceiling line.
Using a laser level ensures the pattern is kept
perfectly plumb & level as we go around the room.
Right on target.
Inside corners are never perfect. Don't
wrap them - you'll be out of plumb & level on the new wall.
Measure the distance to the inside corner & make a "split"
on the next sheet of paper instead.
Preparing to make a "split".
I prefer to use
a pasting machine to apply a perfectly even layer of adhesive every
time and keep the job neat & clean. This Tapo-Fix machine has
pasted many miles of wallpaper over the past decade.
After pasting each sheet, they are placed in a
plastic bag to "book". Booking inside the plastic helps
to keep the edges from drying out.
Wallpapering a wall plate is a nice touch. Just
match the pattern around the plate, then gently remove the plate
from the wall without moving the wallpaper. Then wrap the wallpaper
around the plate & cut out the holes with an Olfa knife.
After installing the wall plate, wipe
any excess adhesive off the wallpaper.
