This historic home in NW Portland, OR has lots
of Bradbury & Bradbury handprinted wallpapers. The painters
put tape on this paper and it was damaged when the tape was removed.
Since Bradbury & Bradbury doesn't have a vinyl
coating like many prepasted papers it is possible to hang another
Bradbury & Bradury paper over it (provided the first layer remains
adhered to the wall). First I sand the paper to smooth out the rough
edges and seams. Then clean with a damp sponge.
This hand screened paper has a 27" screen
repeat. A pattern repeat can be non-uniform and occur multiple times
within a screen repeat. You must match the paper at the "Trim/Join"
marks.
Before pasting the paper the selvedges are trimmed
off using a paperhanger's straight edge and single edge razor
blades. I prefer American Line .009" Extra-Keen blades.
Here you can see six different colors were handscreened
in succession to create this beautiful wallpaper.

how to "dry trim" the selvedges.
After pasting, each sheet is allowed to "book"
inside a plastic bag for 10 minutes.
The first sheet is up with the left edge centered
on the wall.
The first sheet was trimmed at it's top, bottom
& right side. Then the sheet and woodwork were wiped off.
The second sheet has been installed and the seam
rolled.
Holding onto your roll ends is cheap insurance.
Having the same lot/run number for repairs allows you to make
it look like it never happened.
