I was contacted by Andre's Imaging & Graphics,
Inc. of Chicago, IL to replace the digital murals in the dressing
rooms of the Levi's store @ Bridgeport Village.
These before photos speak volumes. |
| These digital murals are designed to be overlapped
to match the pattern in what is called the "bleed" area.
The paperhanger then "double cuts" through both layers
and removes the excess material. The seam is then rolled and washed
to remove any adhesive from the face of the wallcovering. |
|
 |
In paperhanging I see something new or amazing
every week. I try hard not to be surprised, shocked or too judgmental
about what others think is "good enough". |
This material was not impossible to work with.
The difference between the first install & the quality of
my installation is like night & day. Just take a look at the
after photos below.

After removing the old murals, there was a fair
amount of wall damage. The old adhesive was removed and the walls
washed & sanded. Two coats of hot mud were applied to the damaged
areas. After completely drying, the walls were sanded again. |
The repaired walls were primed & sealed
with Roman Pro 977 wallcovering primer/sealer.

|
 |
Unfortunately, each panel was too large to pull
through my Pastemaster 62" pasting machine. This panel was
77" X 132". "Dry Hanging" was the technique
used to apply the digital murals to the walls. This simply means
pasting the walls instead of the wallcovering. |
Here you see two panels overlapped before I
made the double cut.
|
|
 |
After the double cut, removing excess material,
rolling the seam & washing off the adhesive.
Yes, I remembered to double cut the overlap below the bench &
install the mural underneath the bench on the right wall. :o) |
This photo shows I was able to make nice straight
cuts on the inside corners.
Some manufacturers may be inclined to say, "OK, you got a
bad installation from your contractor. Guess you know not to use
them anymore?"
Andre's Imaging & Graphics, Inc. went the extra mile to reproduce
all the digital murals & ship them across the country at their
expense, plus pay for my labor to remove/repair/prep/re-hang.
This is truly amazing in today's world.
