Installing a photo mural on a ceiling medallion.
This required a three tiered scaffolding set up. Using my multi-ladder
made it easier to get my paste, tools, mural panels, & rinse
water on top.
The builder painted a cloud scene using acrylic
paints. But the homeowner wasn't satisfied with the result. So I
was contacted to install a photo mural of real clouds!
Since the ceiling was already sealed & the
mural did a good job of hiding the painting underneath, priming
was not necessary. Here's the first panel on the left before trimming.
Self portrait installing the second panel.
The hanging system I employed is called "Wet/Dry
Hanging". This means I pasted the ceiling and wet the back
of the photo mural with water. I used a small wallpaper stripper
spray bottle to mist the back of each panel. This was enough moisture
to allow the material to relax & expand before applying it to
the ceiling.
This is another quality mural from Environmental
Graphics. These photo murals are meant to be overlapped about
1/4" at the seams for proper pattern match. I've already pasted
the ceiling here in the lower right quadrant & allowed the paste
to overlap the adjacent panels.
Goodbye painting. Hello photo mural. Much more
realistic!
The excess paste at the seams was wiped off. The seams will be less
noticeable after the mural completely dries.

The photo mural was orientated to be best viewed when you enter
the large front doors and look up.
A beautiful chandelier will hang from the center
of the medallion to illuminate the photo mural above as well as
the entire room. The scaffolding was left assembled for the electrician
who will install the chandelier at a later date.
Stacking these two photos gives a perspective of what it was like
up there with no guard rail... Yikes!

& family room.
