I was contacted to install a $6,000 custom hand painted canvas mural at a residence in McMinnville, OR. The mural will be installed on a vaulted ceiling.

Here Shannon & I clean debris off the back of the canvas as we unroll the mural to take critical measurements.

After measuring the mural & the ceiling, we used a chalk line to mark where we will prime, paste & install the mural. Since the mural was smaller than the ceiling we had to center it. This proved to be an engineering challenge as neither the mural nor the ceiling were square.
The ceiling had been skim coated and painted with "new construction paint" by a dry wall contractor.

After sanding Jerry begins priming with Zinsser Gardz. You can learn more about Gardz in my Something New section.

After the primer dried Shannon & I apply heavy duty clay adhesive to the ceiling. Shur-Stik 111 was selected for it's initial wet tack.

Preparing to climb on the walk boards & install the mural.
Using the chalk lines as a guide, we begin unrolling the mural at the high end of the ceiling and smoothing it out as we go.
We have to work quickly before the adhesive dries out.
Working our way down the vaulted ceiling the mural starts to emerge, coming to life & transforming the room.
Almost there. Serving it's purpose, the cardboard tube will be jettison and fall back to earth.
Remember neither the mural nor the ceiling were square. Barely noticeable is the laser line I'm projecting onto the mural. This will be used to line up our straight edge to trim off the crooked edges of the mural.
Jerry & Shannon demonstrate trimming the selvedge of the mural. After all the trimming we have a neat installation.
