This entry will get a beautiful Environmental Graphics
mural - a reproduction of Vincent Van Gogh's oil painting "Cafe
Terrace".
The only difficult part of this installation will be getting up
there. The chandelier, ledge and staircase are in the way.
The chandelier is easily moved out of the way by
securing it with twine to the second floor railing.
Rolling out the mural panels & matching
the pattern overlap allows us to measure the exact width &
height. The mural is 94" w X 99" h. A little larger
than our wall we'll be trimming about 1.5" from all sides.
The mural is reverse rolled to remove the vinyl's
"memory" & take out the curl.
This photo shows how the stairs end a couple feet
shy of being directly below the ledge.
After pasting the panels with heavy duty strippable
clear adhesive they are allowed to book about 5 minutes.
Trimming at the ceiling line 18'3" above the
hardwood.
After trimming, the panel is gently wiped with
a damp sponge followed by a micro fiber towel.
Looking down from my perch. This view is deceptive.
It appears the panel is resting on the ledge. In fact the bottom
section of the panel has not yet been unfolded.
From the stairs you can see there's about 2'
of material yet to unfold & make it to the top of the ledge.
A view from the floor shows the multi-ladder had
to be reconfigured & placed just in front of the stairs to install
the bottom section of the first panel.
Cutting around outlets will leave us with an
incomplete looking mural. We elected not to cut around the outlets
and use a clear outlet cover to create a much more eye pleasing
effect. Extra tension from going over the outlets created a bubble
all around the outlet cover. A heat gun was used to relax and
stretch the tension bubble allowing adhesion to the wall &
elimination of the bubble.
The second panel is pasted. The nearest fold is
the top.
A view from the stairs.
This alternate view shows how much the chandelier
was moved away from the work area.
Due to the layout of the room this was the only
way to rig up the install. I was right up against the wall. It
would have been optimal to position the multi-ladder so I was
12" away from the wall. Unfortunately this was not possible.
Carefully aligning the pattern match where the
two panels overlap.
The multi-ladder is repositioned to facilitate
installing the bottom section. The top three feet have already
been double cut at the overlap. The reason for doing this before
installing the bottom section is so the ladder mitts will not
have to be put on top of the mural.
The completed installation with all double cutting
finished. This mural "seamed" very nicely. I highly recommend
Environmental Graphics murals.
Stairway view of the finished mural.
A view from the second floor. The chandelier
has been returned to it's original position. Now where did that
outlet go?
